How to Find Us

Biopharma House is located in Winnall Valley Road, which is in a small industrial area on the east side
of Winchester. Winchester is a small city with plenty to see and do and many places to stay and numerous
pubs and restaurants. The purpose of this guide is to help you find the easiest route to Winchester,
whether you are making your way to the city centre or coming straight to Biopharma House.
Travelling in from abroad - airport links
The closest airport to Winchester is Southampton Airport (code SOU), located near Eastleigh, which is about
15 km (10 miles) from Winchester. Many flight companies operate to and from Southampton airport. It is the
main hub for FlyBe, which has flights to about 40 different European airports. Another benefit of flying to
Southampton is that your bags will usually be waiting for you as soon as you have cleared Passport Control
(usually only 5 – 10 minutes after disembarking the aircraft). Southampton airport is generally quick and simple
to use.
Winchester is also accessible from London’s airports. London’s biggest airport is Heathrow Airport (code LHR),
which is around 80 km (50 miles) from Winchester, with reasonable transport links. As a major international hub,
Heathrow is accessible from most countries around the world including the US, although as it is a much larger,
much busier airport than Southampton, travelling through it will take longer and be more complicated. If at all
possible we recommend using Southampton.
London also has 2 smaller airports – Gatwick (LGW), which is about 160 km (100 miles) from Winchester, and Stansted
(STN), which is about 200 km (130 miles) from Winchester. Travelling from either of these airports by public transport
can be fiddly, so you may wish to hire a car.
Getting to Winchester from Southampton Airport
By TAXI: A taxi ride should take approximately 15 minutes (longer at peak times) and will usually
cost between GBP £15 and £20. Many taxis in the UK take credit / debit cards, although not all do, so you may need
to check with the driver first. There is an ATM machine in the terminal building if you need to withdraw cash.
By TRAIN: Trains operate from just across the street from the terminal building. Turn left as
you exit the terminal building, walk to the corner of the street (just past the end of the terminal building) and
cross the road to the station. You will also need to cross to the further platform (Platform 1) for trains to
Winchester. All trains to London should stop at Winchester station as the first or second station stop (about a
10 minute journey, with tickets usually costing around £4). Winchester train station is near the city centre, so
if you are coming to Biopharma House, the easiest way is to take a taxi from outside the station. There are usually
plenty of taxis waiting and it should cost £3-4 to Biopharma House. You may need to tell the driver that
Biopharma House is the last building on the right hand side before the car park at the end of Winnall Valley Road.
Hiring a CAR: If you want to spend some leisure time in Winchester and the surrounding area
during your visit, you may wish to hire a car. Southampton airport has the usual range of Car Hire companies –
the desks are located in the Arrivals lounge. Benefits of hiring a car are that you will have easy access to local
tourist sites such as Stonehenge and The New Forest, both of which are about 40 km from Winchester and only accessible
by car.
Getting to Winchester from London Heathrow Airport
By BUS: National Express operates a service from LHR airport to Winchester city centre, which takes 70 minutes
on a direct bus and around 2 hours on an indirect bus. Usually direct and indirect buses alternate throughout the day,
with departures being once every hour. This is the most cost-effective way of getting to Winchester from LHR (approx £15
each way) and the buses are usually very comfortable and quite reliable. However, you would be advised to book and pay
for a ticket in advance, by going to
www.nationalexpress.com .
You should leave plenty of time to transfer from the terminal to the Bus Station at the airport to catch your bus.
Hiring a CAR: As you would expect, there is a wide choice of Car Hire companies at LHR, with desks
in the Arrivals halls of each terminal. The most direct route to Winchester by road is to take the M25 (South), then exit
the M25 at Junction 13 onto the M3 (South – signposted Southampton). For Winchester, you will need to exit the M3 at Junction
9. Take the 3rd exit (signed to the City Centre and Winnall Trading Estate). If you are driving straight to Biopharma House,
go across one roundabout (with a Shell petrol station on the right), then after about 100 metres, turn left into Winnall Manor
Road (opposite SCATS store), then follow the road round to the right to enter Winnall Valley Road. Biopharma House is the
last building on the right, before the Enterprise car park at the end of the road.
By TAXI: If you wish to come to Winchester by Taxi, please bear in mind that the “London Black Cabs” that
wait outside the airport tend to be far more expensive (up to £200) than standard taxis (usually £70). Therefore, you
would be advised to book in advance. Biopharma can make a reservation on your behalf with a reputable taxi company if you
give us at least 24 hours’ prior notice.
By TRAIN: Rail links are available, changing either at Reading or Woking. The journey will take around an
hour and should cost you between £25 - £40. Booking in advance will get you the best price - for more information see
