NEWS NEW 2-DAY TRAINING COURSES Customer feedback has highlighted that many of you would prefer shorter courses focusing on either the “laboratory” or the “machinery” side of freeze drying. For this reason we have been hard at work designing a new course format to help those with a more specific requirement. The “Product and Process” course will focus on formulation design and analysis, cycle development, PAT and scale-up. These courses will be invaluable for anyone involved in formulation and cycle development or analysis, from research scientists and technicians to quality control officers. The “Design and Engineering” course will focus on the freeze-drying equipment itself, including the different systems that make up a freeze dryer, faultfinding and maintenance, qualification and validation, and how to go about writing a URS. We will be holding these courses here at our new facility in Winchester. We began the process of moving premises in April 2008, with modernisation work continuing through the year, which has given us a training facility and state-of-the-art freeze-drying laboratory. A half-day practical demonstration and hands-on session in the laboratory will feature as part of the "Product and Process" course, including looking at freeze-dryers and moisture analysers as well as our own freeze-drying analytical instruments, Lyostat2 (freeze-drying microscope) and Lyotherm2 (thermal and impedance analyser). The "Design and Engineering" course will involve a Workshop session on the afternoon of the 2nd day, where various features of freeze-dryers are examined in further detail. Courses will run several times a year, with the first course being 23-24 March ("Product and Process").
