NEWS PBP World Meeting Valletta Our Principal Scientist Isobel Cook attended the 7th World Meeting on Pharmaceutics, Biopharmaceuticals and Pharmaceutical Technology in Valletta, Malta in March. Attendance for this conference was paid for by the JPAG bursary that she won at the British Pharmaceutical Conference last year for her talk on Headspace Moisture Mapping for vials in a freeze dryer (click here to download). The World meeting covered a variety of research topics, including the use and pathways for administering of nano-particles, process design and control and nucleic acid design and delivery. This conference enabled us to discuss a wide range of topics and investigate where our freeze drying expertise could be of assistance. With over 1000 attendees it was a good networking event, the historic city of Valletta and the Gala dinner in the hall ‘La Vallette’ with its vaulted ceilings certainly provided a grand backdrop for this event. Meanwhile back in the UK, our Research Scientist Marc Townell and Business Development Executive Dora Halmi attended the bioProcessUK Biopharmaceutical Formulation Special Interest Group at the Nottingham Forest football ground. After a very clever ‘Speed Networking’ event to get people talking a number of presentations were given, including one on the use of Design of Experiments to obtain an optimal freeze-drying formulation without the headache and time wasting of a ‘One Factor At a Time’ approach. The event was concluded with a tour of the Novozymes plant to see their processing capability. Whilst not a sunny as Valletta, it was a valuable event for BTL!
